CAMBODIA: The good, the bad and the ugly
Sunday, 02 December 2007 17:47

kambodža, cambodia kambodža, cambodia, siem reap

After spending only 1 week in Cambodia, I left the country with mixed feelings inside. It is a country of condradictions. Cambodia offerst only two spectacular places to visit: the temples of Angkor and the horrible Tuol Sleng Museum in their capital Phnom Penh.

In the 10th century they built the world's largest religious building - Angkor Wat. In the eighties they experienced the most hienus revolution the world has ever seen.
Seeing the temples of Angkor was just unbelievebly stunning. Temples surounded by jungle, are slowly being eaten up by vegetation, there are beautiful butterflies flying around as well as nice and noisy parrots. The whole place is magical and radiates with ancient atmosphere that I cannot describe in words. So far these temples are my No. 1 when it comes to architecture and cultrure.

On the other hand, visiting Killing Fields of Choeung Ek and the Tuol Sleng Museum was such a horrible experience, that it shattered my illusion on normalcy. It was disturbing, uncernsored look into the darkest side of human condition.
