It only takes 2.5 hours to fly from Australia to New Zealand, but Kiwi land is completely different to Oz's land. New Zealand is a very unique country with spectacular snow capped mountains, lakes, volcanic plateaus, glaciers, beaches and islands. It is autumn in NZ now and the temperatures move around 15C, which is ideal for outdoor activities, such as trekking. After five months of walking in flip-flops, I took my trekking boots out of my bag and with a smile on my face set out to explore this awesome country. Â The population in NZ is only 4.1 mil. people, but there are about 40 mil. sheep here :) Everytime I cross a pasture or a meadow I can see cows or sheep feeding on the grass. I got the first glimpse of Kiwi land and its natural beauty, when I was crossing the Southern Alps on the Tranz Alpine train from Christchurch to Greymouth. The train had a viewing platform and the vistas were really splendid: mountains, lakes, pastures and rainforest. Â I am now exploring the South Island. I should see some more nature and do some more trekking. In Queenstown, which is the adrenalin capital of the world, I will do something stupid and dangerous :) After South Island I will go to North Island and see some volcanos and a hot spring/mud bath. I dont have a set itinerary, so I dont know exactly what I am gonna do. Just keep checking my blog to stay in touch. |
